Sandy Fishpool

BA (Hons) BArch RIBA CR

Sandy Fishpool has built a reputation working on both traditional and contemporary architectural projects including cutting-edge paragraph 84e projects, and her services for several of the UK's historic country houses. Now with an architectural career spanning 30 years, she has worked on a wide range of projects across the UK which reflects her commitment to creating lasting, meaningful spaces that enhance communities and environments.

Recent projects include working on the restoration of listed buildings such as the model farm at Wentworth Woodhouse and St. Leonard’s House. She also led the renovation of a Grade II-listed Georgian villa in Great Malvern, where her role as lead consultant allowed her to combine her architectural and heritage expertise, ensuring the property was both sensitively restored and adapted for modern use.

‘My ethos is to enhance places through architecture, heritage, and landscape while achieving clients’ goals. This commitment continues to drive my strategy for successful projects’.

Sandy’s passion for architecture and heritage began in her childhood visiting the many historical buildings she visited with them, such as the Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece. This fascination was further exhibited by her dissertation about the Bastides of southern France, and through her early projects in sensitive locations such as the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Sandy is on the RIBA Conservation Register, and she can offer expert strategic advice, tailored design solutions, and thorough heritage research to clients seeking to preserve and enhance historic buildings.

Sandy is an active member of Skipton Civic Society whilst pursuing an MSC in Building Conservation which has led to locally inspired studies. One example is an essay about the stunning Mill Bridge Gallery in Skipton, which led to a sold out talk at Skipton Town Hall.

In addition to her conservation work, Sandy has designed bespoke homes in challenging locations, including Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Her ability to balance her clients' needs with the requirements of local planning authorities has resulted in homes that are exceptional in design and seamlessly integrated into their surroundings. One of her notable projects is a contemporary replacement house in Nidderdale, inspired by the architectural principles of Frank Lloyd Wright. The house uses traditional, locally sourced materials and design elements that reflect the region’s heritage, demonstrating that modern architecture can thrive even in the most sensitive environments.

Throughout her career, Sandy has remained dedicated to enhancing the built environment through a combination of innovation, respect for heritage, and careful consideration of landscape. With every project, she strives to create spaces that are not only functional but also meaningful, beautiful, and in harmony with their context.
