Hockerhill Adventure Play Barn

The Giffard family embarked on an extraordinary journey to revitalise a collection of disused farm buildings in the Green Belt, with the aim of creating a vibrant family attraction. This initiative not only aimed to diversify their business but also sought to enrich the community and positively impact the local economy. Their goal was to develop an adventure play experience that would delight children while providing a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere for adults.

I was pleased to contribute my architectural design expertise as the lead designer during my time at Rural Solutions Ltd. The architectural design process was comprehensive, covering everything from the initial concept to planning approval, detailed designs, and construction phases (RIBA stages 0-6). I also had the opportunity to collaborate with Capco, renowned for their exceptional play equipment and installations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, building prices increased significantly, and I played a key role in carrying out a value engineering exercise to ensure the project remained on budget. This meticulous management helped ensure a successful outcome.

Ultimately, the Hockerhill Adventure Play barn opened in 2024 to widespread acclaim, quickly establishing itself as a beloved destination for families in the area.
